welcome to brb crying, a weekly newsletter where two thirty-something teenagers talk about what made them cry. laugh along as we dive into what moves us to tears (movies! books! personal stories! tbh anything is fair game!) and why crying helps us connect with ourselves and each other. check out the pod for more.
💌 dear diary reader
your girls are S T O K E D for valentine’s day:
this week on 023: boring is lucky / dramione girlies wya, we get into some ~love~ stories:
✨ARNS PARES DOWN LOVE TO ITS SIMPLEST FORM
if you couldn’t already tell, we’re yappers. so when an artist comes along and puts us in our place by succinctly capturing our feelings in just a couple of phrases, we welcome her with open arms.
this week’s artist in question: Haley Heynderickx with her song “Seed of a Seed”. a snippet, if you will:
if we don't know better
if we don't know better
well, did my parents know better?
no, but they tried
…
and if I'm lucky
maybe a glass of wine
And if I'm lucky
maybe a hand next to mine
as arns reflects:
our ideas of happiness often revolve so much around conventional ideas of success.
but through our evolutions, we undo all of that and figure out that a life where we slow down and just exist isn’t boring—it’s lucky.
✨NINS IS WRECKT BY DRAMIONE FANFICTION
”wtf is dramione???” allow us to explain:
some of nins’ thoughts on the work of art that is Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love by isthisselfcare:
it doesn’t make sense that they would work. it’s too complicated, there’s too much baggage, there would be too much judgment.
but your heart doesnt care about logic. it doesn’t care about the what’s easy or what’s socially acceptable. it just picks who it picks and you and your stupid brain have no choice but to bear it. and in this moment, draco is just so overcome with this realization that his heart is picking her.
i think that’s the heartbreaking part about love and attraction. because sometimes we fall for people that are brain screams at us not to. there’s such a fear of getting hurt, of things not working out, of feelings not being reciprocated. and so you just silently struggle as your heart yearns for what your brain won’t let you have. that is the dichotomy of catching feelings: how it can feel so good but hurts so bad.
