when people don’t choose us, it’s the worst feeling in the world. when other people do choose us, it feels incredible–but all of that is volatile and is a reflection of them more than us.
so for that reason, nothing is as beautiful and powerful as choosing yourself.
on the surface, moana appears to be a story about following your heart, but it’s more than that. it’s about questioning and dismantling your truth, and then rebuilding it until it’s a clear reflection of what’s in your heart.
only then can we begin to heal.

i know there are times in our lives that we wish so desperately we could go back to. and it’s heartbreaking because when we miss something that we no longer have, all that’s left is the memory of it.
and what do we do, when those memories start to slip through our fingers? i don’t know, really. i think we can accept that life is a continuous change and that we will always be evolving and growing and the people will always come back to us, oftentimes in different ways.
i look at my sister and i’m just so proud to even know her, let alone all these versions of her. today she is the best mom. but before that she was just mine. and i was just hers…
and we’re still those things to each other. sisters forever, but it means something a little different now. and that’s okay.
